Day Zero returns to its Tulum roots for 2027 edition

Day Zero is heading home. The festival founded by Damian Lazarus returns to the Tulum jungle on Jan. 9, 2027, for another single-night gathering beneath the Yucatán canopy.

Day Zero spent the past year expanding its constellation, making its Brazilian debut in São Miguel dos Milagres and bringing the gathering to Bali for the first time. Tulum is where it all started, born during the 2012 Mayan calendar’s final day.

The event runs sunset to sunrise as a single continuous ceremony, with Lazarus closing the night at dawn in what has become the series’ signature moment. Towering structures rise from the forest floor, ceremonial performers move through the crowd, and the jungle itself becomes part of the production.

Lazarus has been running Crosstown Rebels since 2003, and the label’s underground catalog sets the tone for what shows up across the Day Zero series. Expect pioneering DJs, live acts, and emerging artists pulled from across the global electronic scene.

Day Zero’s relationship with Tulum runs deeper than one night a year. Through its Crosstown Consciousness initiative, the team has installed solar-powered street lights throughout Dos Ojos, supported turtle conservation along Tulum’s coastline, organized beach cleanups, and donated to the local Titanes de Tulum children’s soccer team.

Since 2022, Day Zero has partnered with Mexican company PETGAS to convert festival plastic waste into biodegradable fuel that helps power on-site infrastructure. The festival also operates under a strict no single-use plastics policy alongside extensive on-site recycling systems.

Day Zero works closely with local Mayan leaders on the ceremonial programming that runs through the night. The festival treats the region’s spiritual heritage as foundational to the gathering, not as backdrop. It also champions regional electronic music through El Teatro, a stage dedicated entirely to Mexican artists.

Tickets of Trust go on sale June 2 at 11 a.m. Tulum time for presale registrants, with general public sales following at 3 p.m. Tulum time. Presale registration is open now at register.dayzerofestival.com.
