Wreckno Unleashes Most Authentic Work Yet with ‘ID FREAK’ EP

Wreckno has delivered their most personal statement yet with “ID FREAK,” a six-track EP released June 27 that celebrates queer identity through boundary-pushing musical style.

The Michigan-born artist, who uses they/he/she pronouns, has spent years creating safe spaces for LGBTQ+ people in a genre that historically lacked representation. Now 27, Wreckno continues that mission with their first fully independent release since 2022’s “The Fantasy.”

“ID FREAK” represents more than just music for the genre-bending producer. Each track comes paired with custom couture fashion looks that serve as visual extensions of Wreckno’s fearless artistic identity.

The EP rollout included two singles leading up to the release. “DL” featuring jordnmoody dropped May 30, followed by the title track “ID FREAK” on June 13. Both tracks provided glimpses into what Wreckno describes as “a vibrant sonic love letter to the queer and underground bass scenes.”

This release continues Wreckno’s transformation of Pride Month into an annual showcase of artistic evolution since 2022. Previous Pride releases include the house-leaning “Fantasy” EP and 2024’s “Party Girl,” which introduced hyperpop-trap hybrids alongside high-fashion visuals.

Wreckno’s breakthrough came through collaborations with major electronic acts including GRiZ, Liquid Stranger, and Rezz. Their 2020 track “Medusa” with GRiZ charted No. 1 in TikTok’s Pride category, surpassing Donna Summer and Madonna while garnering over 3 million Spotify streams.

Growing up openly queer in small-town Michigan, Wreckno found early inspiration in pop icons like Lady Gaga and Britney Spears before discovering bass music at age 16. Electric Forest, just 30 minutes from their hometown, provided the first glimpse into electronic music’s transformative power.

“I was always obsessed with pop artists like Lady Gaga,” Wreckno told Festival Insider. “By the time I got to 15/16, the EDM bubble was blowing up. And I lived 30 minutes away from Electric Forest, so I went when I was 16.”

Now Wreckno headlines major events including Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, and Electric Forest while maintaining their commitment to LGBTQ+ advocacy.

Pride Month 2025 brought another milestone as Wreckno hosted the beloved Big Gay Soirée at Electric Forest. The traveling celebration of queer joy launched at Electric Forest 2022 and has since appeared at festivals including Okeechobee, Envision Festival, and Denver’s ReelWorks.

The event has grown into a celebration that brings together performance art, music, and community activism. This year’s BGS carries added significance as it celebrates 10 years of marriage equality in the United States, with past editions featuring iconic guests including RuPaul’s Drag Race queens Aja and LaLa Ri.

The event showcases Wreckno’s broader mission of creating inclusive spaces within electronic music culture. Their recent “PANSY” EP explored reclaiming hate speech, with Paper Magazine noting how the release “puts queer empowerment first and obliterates the competition in the process.”

Beyond production credits and festival performances, Wreckno’s influence has made them a role model for young LGBTQ+ individuals seeking representation in electronic music spaces.

They have consistently used their platform to champion expression, joy, and liberation while encouraging others to embrace authentic self-expression. Their success has helped pave the way for openly queer artists in bass music and EDM.

With “ID FREAK,” Wreckno continues pushing creative boundaries while maintaining their core mission of fostering inclusive community spaces. The EP delivers their most audacious and authentic work yet, cementing their status as one of electronic music’s most vital contemporary voices.

The “ID FREAK” EP is now available across all streaming platforms.
