One of Burning Man’s most ambitious art cars is heading back to Nevada’s Black Rock Desert with an impressive roster of world-class electronic music talent. Long Feng, billed as the largest art car on the playa, has announced its lineup for 2025.
The massive mobile stage will host performances from Damian Lazarus, Vintage Culture, Gordo, and Afro-house pioneer Francis Mercier performing back-to-back with Turkish deep house star Mahmut Orhan.
What sets Long Feng apart isn’t just the big names. This is the first “performing art car” designed to transform during performances. The structure bends and unfurls like a contortionist’s body, adapting to each artist’s unique energy and style.
The project began as what the creators describe as a “love story on the playa” between two veteran burners. Long Feng serves as a cultural bridge between Eastern and Western influences, with its design inspired by ancient symbolism including dragons and phoenixes as emblems of beauty, truth and sacred union.
Creative director Mark Alan Diaz emphasized the meticulous attention to detail behind Long Feng. “We built Long Feng with the precision of a tailor — every cut intentional, and every detail curated,” he said.
The sound system for the car represents a collaboration with designers at Sound Investment Audio. The setup incorporates components from Funktion-One, NST Audio and Full Fat Audio, creating what organizers describe as an unparalleled audio experience.
Todd Konecny, partner at Sound Investment Audio, called the project unique in its scope. “It is rare that, as designers, we are given the opportunity to design the ultimate system for a once-in-a-generation art and music fusion creation,” he said.
Long Feng integrates cutting-edge technology including AI, robotics and interactive elements that respond to performances in real time. The project is designed to point toward a future where humans and machines celebrate in harmony, according to organizers.
The highlight of Long Feng’s 2025 plans comes Thursday night with the debut of the Dragon Awakening Tie-Up. The event will bring together Burning Man’s most iconic dragon-themed art cars including Abraxas, Elektra, Heavy Meta, Torch the Dragon and Xuza.
The tie-up will transform the desert night into a showcase of light and creativity. Additional collaborations with art cars Bipolar Express, Titanics End at PlayAlchemist and Maxa Camp are also planned throughout the week.
Unlike traditional music festivals, Burning Man features no headliners or scheduled performers; participants create all the art, activities, and events. Art cars like Long Feng provide the backbone for electronic music at the event, creating temporary communities around shared musical experiences.
Burning Man’s art car culture has been central to the festival since electronic music camps began appearing in 1992, influenced by the rave culture of the San Francisco area. These mobile stages create spontaneous dance floors across the playa, with festival-goers never knowing what musical experience they might discover.
Major art cars have included Mayan Warrior, which has hosted artists like RÜFÜS DU SOL, Carl Cox, and Christian Loffler, and Robot Heart, known for its sunrise sets and deep house programming.
Long Feng’s return marks a significant moment for Burning Man’s electronic music landscape. The art car combines the festival’s principles of radical self-expression and community building with cutting-edge production values and international talent.
As Burning Man continues evolving, projects like Long Feng maintain the event’s experimental spirit while pushing creative boundaries. The art car’s integration of technology, performance and cultural symbolism offers a glimpse into the festival’s future.
Burning Man 2025 runs Aug. 24 through Sept. 1 in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert. Long Feng will roam the playa throughout the week, bringing its unique fusion of ancient wisdom and electronic innovation to festival-goers seeking transformative experiences in the desert.
